A hand drawn portrait of your child?
Childhood is a beautiful time of life but it passes way too quickly. A framed pencil portrait or a coloured pencil portrait of your children hanging on the wall at home, is a great way to capture and celebrate their childhood. My portrait drawings are drawn using the highest quality artists materials, of archive quality, so your portrait drawing will last a lifetime. It makes a unique and touching gift to give or receive between parents and grandparents.
Out of all the portrait drawings I get asked to draw, portraits of children, are my favourite. They are also the most challenging type of portrait drawing.
The photograph is so important in creating a beautiful drawing of your children.
As an ex photographer I know how difficult it can be to capture a great photo of a child; the kind of image that when a parent views it, they say ; you’ve captured him or her just as they are!
You probably have hundreds of mobile phone images of your children and I’m sure that in some of these photos you have captured the unique character of your children.
The problem maybe that the child looks great but the rest of the photo is a mess with other people or objects distracting from the subject. This is where the skill of the portrait artist comes in, to allow me to focus on the subject and create a portrait drawing that features your child and nothing else. As long as the child is in focus, their expression is good and the lighting not too harsh , it will be a good start for a portrait drawing.
So from an everyday photo I create for you a beautiful portrait drawing

Coloured pencil portraits of children
In addition to traditional pencil portraits I also offer coloured pencil portraits of children.
I think a coloured pencil portrait works particularly well for portraits of children.
For my coloured pencil portraits I use Faber-Castell Polychromos coloured pencils as these contain artist quality paint pigment.
So it is a bit like drawing with paint and allows for various ways of blending colours to build up the portrait. I like to leave some of the paper showing through the colours so it gives a luminous feeling which works particularly well for portraits of children, given them a fresh youthful feel.
